Rock-Paper-Scissors Evolution
ANTNNSHS
Simple, no-prep rock paper scissors game where players evolve when they win rounds, with the goal of reaching the final stage.
Before You Start
- Have the whole group gather in a contained area where players can safely move around.
- Make sure that everyone knows how to play RoShamBo (Rock, Paper, Scissors). Have everyone agree on the format (i.e Rock-Paper-Scissors, on scissors is when you reveal).
- Explain that players will all start as an egg and move though 5 stages of evolution to become superheroes. You can change the number and content of stages to adapt to your weekly Gospel or lesson. For example, the stages here are written for a lesson about the 7 days of creation.
- If you are playing with younger kids, you probably want less and more simple stages. You can have them written out on a board for players to reference.
- Day 1 - Light: Hold your hands up high and spread your fingers wide to represent the creation of light.
- Day 2 - Sky and Sea: Stretch your arms out wide to the sides to represent the expanse of the sky. Then mimic waves with your hands to represent the seas.
- Day 3 - Land and Vegetation: Crouch down and then rise up, extending your arms upward like budding plants to represent the creation of vegetation on land.
- Day 4 - Sun, Moon, and Stars: Form circles with your arms above your head to represent the sun, moon, and stars in the sky.
- Day 5 - Birds and Sea Creatures: Flap your arms like wings to represent the creation of birds. Then use your hands to mimic swimming to represent the creation of sea creatures.
- Day 6 - Rest: Lay down and rest. The first player to reach this stage wins.
- Demonstrate clearly how players move between stages by winning rounds. If a player wins they move up a stage, if they lose they move down a stage.
- Remind players that they can only battle against someone who is at the same stage, this encourages players to interact with many different people, not just their friends.
How to Play
- Everyone begins in the first stage.
- Players mix up, pair up and play rock paper scissors.
- The person who wins evolves to the next stage, the person who did not win goes down a stage. If the player is already at the first stage they stay there.
- Players pair up again, only with someone who is in the same stage of evolution.
- When a player evolves all the way to the last stage.
- You can end the game at any time (when a certain amount of players reach the last stage, when the first player reaches the last stage). Use your judgment.
